LETTER  FROM  THE  BUDO  BROTHERS

November already! The year is almost over, and what a year it has been.

It was exactly a year ago today that we launched Budo Brothers. It was a mad dash to get everything ready just in time for the holiday shopping season, and like any new initiative, the excitement of starting something new eventually got tempered by unforeseen challenges... and we hit a few for sure!

Reflecting on the past year has truly been a humbling experience for us both. More than anything, there is one takeaway that became incredibly clear to us. It's you, our supporters, that have made it possible for us to chase our dream of combining passion with purpose. But, there is so much more:

It’s the comments of encouragement that keep us focused.

It’s the lessons we learn from those we are lucky enough to cross paths with.

It’s the stories people share that we are fortunate enough to share.

It’s is the perpetual pursuit of growth in our community.

Thank you for being such a crucial part of our story!

SKILL OF THE MONTH

What  we've  been  Working  on  In  Training:

They say a picture is worth a thousand words… but a video, a video just says it all. No words, no talk, just movement!

We have included a slow, medium, and fast version of this particular skill that helps highlight the movements involved. Now, we do our best to stay style agnostic, so we're not including any naming conventions or going into much detail other than the movement itself.

Try it out! It’s a fun one:

If you have any skills you would like to share, please send them to us.

We'd love to share them with our community!

IT  ALL  STARTED  WITH  A  SIMPLE  IDEA...

Turn back the clock some 18 months ago when the early concept for Budo Brothers was being kicked around:

It all started with some interesting Dojo locker-room talk… and it’s not the locker-room talk that Donald Trump refers to. Rather, it’s the kind of entrepreneurial spit-balling from which new ventures are born.

The conversation went a little something like this:

“You know what we should try?”

 “What?”

“Let’s learn eCommerce and sell really nice Gi’s [Martial Art Uniforms] that don’t chafe.”

“I dunno man, that sounds pretty complicated, and we’d have to inventory a dozen different sizes. Plus, what do we know about sourcing custom garments?”

“You’re right. But still, we should try something! Let’s see if we can put together an premium hanbo offering and make a go of it?”

“Ok, but there is one rule...

"...We're only allowed to start this venture for under $1000."

If it doesn’t work out, big deal, we’re both down $500 and we learned some stuff.”

“Game on!! … Now, where do we start??”

They say a missile cannot change course until it is launched!

That’s exactly what we did.  We launched, and figured the rest out along the way.

The $1000 limit on capital made us get very creative. We needed to figure out how to build a website, get creative with photography, figure out social media marketing, and just put in the work!! What we lacked in capital, we made up for in work ethic! Putting in the hours & grinding it out!

After successfully building an ultra-niche business selling premium hanbo to the martial arts community, we ironically find ourselves coming back to our original vision… But, with a twist!

Instead of selling Gi’s, we decided to design a Gi that you can wear everyday (and not look like a dork.) Reality is, Budo isn’t something that can be turned off. It's with you where ever you go, and we wanted to create something that can be worn as a reminder of that.

Sketch after sketch, design after design, we finally landed on something that we were both incredibly excited about.

INTRODUCING:

THE  "HOOD-GI"

A CUSTOM DESIGNED, ONE OF A KIND, MARTIAL ARTS INSPIRED JACKET

MADE  FROM  THE  SAME MATERIAL  AS  a TRADITIONAL  GI

The Hood-Gi is stylish, thick, durable, and makes you feel like you could fight a bear in it!

DOES UP JUST

LIKE A GI

But, as each layer folds in on itself, magnetic buttons along the lapel keep everything in place.
